Dear Families,
Over the past several months, a community-led committee has been working to examine the needs in our Corning school facilities and develop potential solutions. This group has met several times, toured our facilities, and discussed how we can best plan for the future.
At its meeting last week, the Corning School Board voted to move forward with a bond issue vote that will take place Tuesday, March 7, 2023. If the bond is approved, the district would be able to move forward with the following:
- East classroom additions
- Safe room upgrade
- Addition of a new gymnasium
- Renovations to the central building
- West pod renovation to create new ECEC space
- New fences, dugouts, press box, concessions, bleachers, and accessibility upgrades at the baseball and softball fields
- New concessions, restrooms, and fencing at the football field
- Replace wooden structure and relocate the elementary school playground from the current space to the elementary/ECEC location
- Addition of a bus barn north of football field
An approved bond would have a maximum property tax impact of $69 per year ($5.81 per month) on a home with an assessed value of $100,000. Even with an approved bond, the district’s tax rate would be the third lowest it has been over the last 14 years.
The board’s decision was based on the recommendations of the committee and the results of a recent community-wide survey. Through that survey, 72 percent of residents said they agreed that the district's most urgent facility needs should be addressed now.
We look forward to sharing more information and further engaging our community around these important issues in the weeks and months ahead. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
As always, thank you for your support of the Corning Community School District and the students we serve.
Sincerely,
Chris Fenster
Superintendent
