Superintendent's Message for December 2021

The final month of 2021 has arrived and we are in full swing at Southwest Valley Schools.  We have several events occurring during this busy month, including four holiday concerts, several basketball games, wrestling meets and two board meetings.  The last day of school before the winter break will be on December 17.  Classes will resume on January 4, 2022.

The Corning JK – first grade students begin our winter programs on December 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium.  The following week is packed beginning with the high school choir, show choir and band concert on December 6 at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Enarson Elementary winter concert on December 7 at 6:00 p.m. at the Southwest Valley middle school.  The annual reorganization meeting for the Villisca school board will be held on December 9 at 7 p.m.  The middle school will host the last show of 2021 on December 13 in the middle school gym at 7:00 p.m.

The Corning School Board will have a work session on December 20 at 6:00 p.m., followed by their regular meeting at 7 p.m.  The Corning school board currently has a vacancy on their board and is seeking candidates to fill the position.  If you are interested in serving on the Corning school board, contact the Superintendent’s office.  The electors of the school district have the right to file a valid petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by a special election.

In closing, this has been a great start to this school year and we have rebounded well from the pandemic.  We are still seeing some cases of Covid-19, but our staff and students continue to do a tremendous job of staying focused.  Our excellent nurses continue to monitor and keep me apprised of the illnesses so we can be proactive.  As we approach 2022, we do so with great excitement and hope for a great second semester for our district and the patrons that do a fantastic job of supporting us.  Season Greetings.
