Superintendent's Message for April 2023

April has arrived at Southwest Valley and the end of the school year will be here quickly.  Before we close the book on the 2022-2023 school year, we have information to share and there are always opportunities for you to be a part of within our district moving forward.  In four years, we have passed two bond referendums in our district to invest in our student’s educational experience at Southwest Valley Schools.  The commitment of the patrons of our two communities cannot be matched and I am so proud to be leading this extraordinary district.  We will begin the initial design phase on the elementary building and athletic fields in early April.  The board has selected two community members to serve on this committee and we will also offer time for all who want to see drawings once they become available.  I want to be transparent and show exactly what we are designing and constructing.

It is a very exciting time in the district as we are completing many other projects that will be long-term investments in our facilities.  We have renovated the auditorium with new sound panels, a sound system, lighting, curtains, and a new carpet.  As we move forward, it will be an exciting place for concerts, plays, and ceremonies.  We have installed new theater lights, risers, and a sound system for the middle school stage, so our fine arts programs will have great venues.  The football stadium is upgrading an outdated electric grid and installing new lights for the track and football contests.  The lights will be LED which will be more energy efficient and save on utility bills.  Sponsorships will purchase the new scoreboard and Mr. Naugle has done a great job securing funding for this project.  We are completing a new siding and window project at Enarson Elementary to complete the remodel at that building.  There are always facility repairs and updates that come up in all of our buildings and we try to address a few every year.

As the summer approaches, we are sorry to announce that we cannot offer our summer lunch program.  We have seen a sharp drop in participants in the past two years and we simply do not have the workforce to prepare the meals.

Focusing on the workforce, we are needing three bus drivers for the 2023-2024 school year.  If we cannot find drivers, we will need to make decisions on transporting kids to school and activities.  We will help with training and offer a competitive wage for you to help us transport our kids to and from school.  If you are interested in helping with our transportation difficulties, contact Dean McMann at dmcmann@southwestvalley.org or Chris Fenster at cfenster@southwestvalley.org or call 641-322-4242.

Make sure to check our website and Facebook page for all the extracurricular activities that will be happening in April and May in Twolvesterritory.   It is always a great day to be a T-wolf!
