Superintendent's Message for June 2022
Summer has arrived at Southwest Valley Schools! 2021-2022 was a great school year!
We graduated another senior class who are now Southwest Valley alumni and we are excited to bring a new group of preschoolers on board next fall!
We are continuing our journey of becoming a destination district. I set that goal when I arrived in the summer of 2018 and I am sure you are saying, what have we done to make it a destination district? Fair question.
We have completely updated our west campus facilities and established Early Childhood Education Centers in both communities. We moved our alternative education program back to the high school and started accepting students from area schools to that program. We also graduated our first adult learners with their HiSep degree. We worked together to educate our students through a global pandemic while other schools shut down or had to close temporarily because of Covid cases. We have four administrators who have transformed their buildings into positive education centers that provide challenging curricula for our students. We have reduced staff turnover significantly and have a great team in place for the future. Our enrollment has leveled off and has remained steady with some increase in the past four years. Our communities continue to provide thousands of dollars for our graduating seniors in scholarship money. These are all part of the foundation we have laid to start building our destination district at Southwest Valley.
The future is full of plans to improve our facilities on the district's east side. We have a committee that meets monthly to study what improvements are needed for our facilities and the public is always invited to these meetings. We plan to install new curtains and soundboards in the Southwest Valley high school auditorium and install a new boiler and air conditioning units in the high school activity center. The school boards in both towns are committed to improving the curriculum and providing the best learning environments for our students. This summer I am meeting with area superintendents to explore a career academy for our students that are interested in pursuing a career in electrical, plumbing, nursing, welding, etc. This type of academy would allow our students to graduate from high school with different certifications that will prepare them for their careers without college requirements.
Southwest Valley schools are progressing with our goal in mind of providing a place where all students can learn together and live out our school's mission: The Southwest Valley community will create an enthusiastic learning environment to promote responsibility and empathetic contributors to society.
We welcome all of you to become more involved in our schools and be a part of what we are building at Southwest Valley - because it is always a great day to be a T-wolf!
