Superintendent's Message for January 2025

Happy New Year, and welcome to 2025! We are thrilled to kick off a great new semester at
Southwest Valley Schools, where so many exciting things are happening across our district.
The Corning Elementary School project is taking shape and coming to life, a testament to the
hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Over the holiday season, three of our high
school clubs came together to pack 80 meals for hungry families in our community, showing our
students incredible generosity and compassion.
We are also proud to celebrate some amazing individual achievements. Congratulations to our
Pride of Iowa conference wrestling champion, Ian Forsythe! We also want to recognize Ashton
Boswell who represented Southwest Valley by marching in the ReliaQuest Bowl game parade –
what an incredible honor!
Looking ahead, we’re excited to host the 70th annual John J. Harris wrestling tournament at the
end of January. It is sure to be a fantastic event and a great way to showcase the talent and
sportsmanship of our student-athletes and our great communities. The tournament is
scheduled for January 24-25th at Southwest Valley High School.
The district recently completed all our scheduled upgrades in security for our buses and school
facilities. We have equipped all of our buses with new cameras and stop-arm cameras to
improve the safety of all of our students and drivers. We also added additional cameras, doors,
and new security measures at all of our facilities. We want all of our students to feel safe when
they are attending school.
As we begin the second semester, we anticipate a great finish to the 2024-2025 school year.
We ask parents and guardians to make sure their child is in school every day and they are
ready to learn. We have great educators who are ready to provide the best for our students, but
we need everyone to help us keep the students safe and ready to learn daily.
