Superintendent's Message for June 2024

Summer has arrived in T-Wolves territory, marking the end of another successful academic year. Our esteemed class of 2023-2024 has graduated, and we are proud to welcome them as Southwest Valley alumni! Their achievements and growth are a testament to our teachers' dedication and our community's support. As we prepare for the transition to another exciting year, we look forward to building on these successes.

Since arriving here in 2018, I have been advocating for creating a “Destination District.” This district is where families settle down and raise their children in our educational environment and communities. We believe that everyone, from parents to community members, plays a crucial role in making our children’s educational experiences the best in the area. Your involvement is appreciated and it is essential to our success.

This coming school year, we will work to create opportunities for families and community members to be more involved.  A Timberwolf Advisory Group will be established, and will meet quarterly to discuss and brainstorm ideas to help our children be more successful.  Our School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) will continue to meet to establish goals to improve our academics and facilities at all locations.

Again, one of my big goals for the future of our school is to increase involvement from our parents and community members.  We can only have successful athletic and fine arts programs with the support from our booster clubs.  These clubs have three to four volunteers attending meetings, staffing concession stands, and organizing fundraising events.  These folks continue to put in the time because they care about the program's success and want their children to have the best, but they need your help.  Please consider volunteering for our booster clubs and PTO!  Contact Allen Naugle for the boosters, Chris Fenster for the SIAC, and building principals for the PTO.

The Governor has passed significant changes to education. During July and August, I will break this legislation down for stakeholders to help you understand your rights as parents and community members and to maintain transparency as a district.

The district has committed to improving our facilities so our students have the best facilities to learn, perform, and succeed. We renovated Enarson Elementary and SWV Middle School during the past few years. This summer, we will begin a year-long project at Corning Elementary and the baseball and softball fields. During this construction, we ask for patience and understanding. We will be in different facilities, but as we open the 2025-2026 school year, we will be in new renovated buildings and athletic fields.  Our students and staff deserve the best! These improvements also help us maintain and attract families to our district.

The future is bright at Southwest Valley! We understand that successful schools are staffed with strong, well-prepared, and well-supported staff. As we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, our administration team is committed to working hard this summer to maintain and provide support for our staff. We are confident that with your continued support, we will achieve our goal of becoming the Destination District in southwest Iowa. It is a great day to be a T-Wolf!
